The BTEC National Public Services gives you an in-depth understanding of the skills you need for an active career in the uniformed services.

The course is designed to be adaptable to your needs, interests and career aspirations and consists of six core units plus a choice of specialist units.

The structure of the course allows you to focus on your interests within the sector, such as outdoor and adventurous expeditions, custodial care of individuals or the fundamentals of nautical studies.

The course encompasses different methods of learning including visits, presentations, work experience, coaching and community service. Assessment is 100% coursework with no examinations.

A Level Leisure Studies

A Level LEISURE STUDIES An A level with a real difference!

There’s only one traditional exam, the other is an “open book” exam & you will be told the questions in advance!

The leisure industry is one of the biggest employers in the country, so if you are looking for a qualification that will lead you into a fantastic choice of jobs this is the subject for you.

• You will gain a single A level in your first year, so if you are looking for a one year course this is it!

• In the second year you will gain a second A level, so this is a DOUBLE AWARD.

You will learn about the leisure industry today, its range of facilities, leisure management and life styles and changes within the leisure industry.

During the programme there will be extensive visits planned for each unit so that students gain the experience of the subject working effectively.

We are extremely lucky to have strong links with lots of exciting leisure companies. Already this year we have visited AFC Bournemouth, Emirates Stadium (Arsenal), Thorpe Park and Moors Valley Country Park.

We have lots of exciting visits planned for the coming year including Barcelona, London and Avon Tyrell.

A Level Product Design (Graphic Products or Resistant Materials)

This is an exciting, highly rewarding and challenging A-level subject, which stimulates both creativity and innovation There is an expectation that students will work with practicing designers, clients and industry to produce products which respond to genuine needs and situations. This course fosters a learning approach which helps to develop skills in problem solving, independent learning, design and manufacture. Students should decide which area of design to focus on, either Graphic Products or Resistant Materials as there are different requirements for the written examinations and ‘core’ content.

Students will benefit from excellent teaching delivered by a highly committed and successful department, outstanding examination performance for the last ten years and excellent facilities for studying Graphics and Resistant Materials.

A Level Psychology

Want to study psychology? Excellent choice.

So what is it?

Psychology is the science of mind, behaviour and experience. Psychologists study what people do. Being aggressive or kind, thinking and seeing, breathing and walking, being a friend or a parent are all examples of behaviour, experience helps us to explain behaviour by understanding how a person feels when they do something in a certain way.

Psychologists work in areas such as health, business, crime, forensics and education. The work is varied, exciting and yes very well paid!

On a personal level what can the study of psychology do for me?

This course will give you some fundamental and lasting insights into human behaviour to help you cope better with your own life and with the people around you. Besides learning about human behaviour, you will also learn to express yourself coherently, challenge information, be confident about yourself, and be a better friend, employee and member of society!

A Level Sociology

This course is designed to offer you the opportunity to gain a critical understanding of the society in which you live.

Throughout the course, you will study the sociological perspectives surrounding social behaviour, cultures and learn how people’s interaction shape their societies.

You will study from a selection of chosen topics, including the Family, Mass Media, Religion, Youth and Culture, Crime and Deviance, Education, Health, Popular Culture, Social Policy and Welfare, and Protest and Social Movements.

The course offers a suitable foundation for progression into higher education, in a wide range of social science, humanities or vocational subjects. Students may also progress into vocational training or employment in various occupations, including social work, social care, journalism, business administration and management.

Previous study of the subject is not essential.

BTEC First Diploma in Engineering

This exciting course allows students to gain an understanding of the world of engineering, leading to vocational careers and further and higher education pathways. Students will experience manufacturing, engineered products and gain an insight into the role engineering plays in our lives.

Provides education and training specifically in the areas of electronics, maintenance and manufacturing which is directly relevant to the changing needs of employees, employers and the professions

A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities.

The BTEC Travel & Tourism course offers you the opportunity to develop a range of practical skills and an in depth knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industries. It is the ideal stepping-stone for students who wish to go on to the Advanced Course. The course involves a variety of methods of study including visits, presentations, group work and work experience.

Assessment involves six internally assessed portfolios, there are no traditional style examinations.

The course is aimed at students who either wish to prepare for a job in the Travel and Tourism industries, or who wish to progress to an advanced course. The style of teaching and learning encourages students to develop research and independent study skills.

BTEC Art and Design

The course provides an exciting, highly rewarding and challenging approach to studying Art and Design which stimulates both creativity and innovation.

There is an expectation that students will work with practicing designers, clients and industry to produce products which respond to genuine needs and situations.

This course fosters a learning approach which helps to develop skills in problem solving, independent learning, design and manufacture.

BTEC Business

The course offers the opportunity to gain a work related qualification in a business related environment.

The course focuses on business aspects such as Business Purposes, Finance, Marketing, Sales and Recruitment. The course encompasses different methods of learning including visits, presentations, and work experience.

Students are also given the opportunity to enrol in the Young Enterprise program where they have the chance of starting their own company.

Assessment is 100% coursework with no examinations.

BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences

The BTEC National Certificate qualification is a double award where you will study a number of exciting and rewarding units.

The BTEC National in Sport and Exercise Sciences is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in current and future employment in the sport and related industries.

In particular they prepare learners for those roles that require a scientific background or for entry to appropriate undergraduate degree programmes.

BTEC National Sport Coaching & Fitness

The course offers the opportunity to gain a work related qualification in a sports related environment.

The course focuses on the coaching and fitness aspects of the sports industry and prepares students for careers and higher education in the sports coaching, sports fitness and sports training aspects of the industry.

The course encompasses different methods of learning including visits, presentations, work experience, coaching and community service. Assessment is 100% coursework with no examinations.

CACHE Child Care Certificate in Child Care and Education

The Childcare Level 2 Certificate in Childcare & Education (CCE) course is studied for one year, and prepares learners to work in a supervised capacity with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of Children’s Services.

Learners study aspects of the physical care and development of the child and working with young children.

The course will enable learners to investigate the emotional and social development of children whilst preparing for employment with young children.

Students will spend two days in School studying theory and three days on work placements.

BTEC Childcare

The course prepares learners to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of Children's Services.

Learners study aspects of the physical care and development of the child and working with young children.

The course will enable learners to investigate the emotional and social development of children whilst preparing for employment with young children.

Students will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau check –CRB- (statutory requirement) and supply a reference.

Students will have the opportunity to gain a recognised First Aid qualification and the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

OCR National Level 2 Diploma in ICT

Do you want to be recognised for the ICT skills you already have and not the ICT skills an exam board think you should know?

If yes, this course is for you.

Information Communication Technology (ICT) uses a wide range of software and hardware to create solutions to solve problems. You will also have opportunities for acquiring skills needed in the IT profession such as co-operative working and project management. These practical skills can be developed in areas of ICT that are of interest to you.

Examples include

• Creating animation for the WWW using ICT

• Design and produce multimedia products

• Digital imaging - plan and produce computer graphics

BTEC ICT

The course prepares learners for life in the ICT industry.

Practical modules in areas such as PC building, network design and software / hardware installation provide a practical hands on approach to learning.

Software development in website design and software configuration helps develop a well rounded and practical approach to learning needed to further your career in ICT.
